It never as in the case the word “trattoria” is restrictive for a restaurant like Trattoria Teo in Trastevere. For goodness sake, we are in Trastevere, and eating here you will find excellent matriciana and carbonara. Chicken with peppers and coda alla vaccinara as prescribes the tradition. And it is true that the “trattoria” definition always makes its effect in a time when we’ve come to look for authenticity of flavors. Yet by Teo you can also find dishes that in other Roman trattorias you can only dream, like the excellent pie carasau bread, chicory and burrata (14 euro), the spectacular artichokes with squid (14), the cheese and pepper with lime and shrimps (14), raw fish.
Teo is located on the quieter side of Trastevere, in a little square where you can enjoy a few tables in the dehor.
The interior of the restaurant is quite intimate, wine and photos on the walls, waiters running in order to assure you smoothly dinner.
Teo until a few years ago was a few meters away from the current square and ran the famous Enzo restaurant, a historic Roman trattoria in Trastevere. The owners of the walls of Enzo, also restaurateurs, have returned to the possession of the local and Teo was then moved to Piazza dei Ponziani 7.
Teo is definitely one of our favorite restaurants in Rome. One of those restaurants where we bring foreign friends to know the Roman cuisine, because here is a safe bet: excellent raw materials, cook who knows how to do his job, waiters who are doing well with tourists speaking Spanish and English. Right price.
The costumers are mixed: Roman knowledgeable and well-informed tourists.
If you want to try the traditional Roman cuisine, you can choose among the great tradition pasta’s dishes (all 11 euro): matriciana, carbonara, Gricia and Cacio e pepe (cheese and pepper). But we also recommend the fettuccine with artichokes, spinach and ricotta ravioli (12) and the fettuccine with asparagus (12).
Among the main courses we point out the coda alla vaccinara (14), the tripe (12), and the costolette d’agnello alla scottadito (lamb chops 14 euro).
Best to keep in mind when ordering… the portions are generous!
It closes with the wonderful mascarpone mousse with strawberries (small, medium or large – 2.4 – 4.5. 7 Euros) or with the tiramisu (5).
